Hi! My name is Sidak Pal Singh.
I am a third year (junior) Computer Science undergraduate at Indian Institute of Technology (IIT), Roorkee. Most of my time is spent in coding on an Ubuntu-powered laptop. Other than that, I rejoice in traversing vast depths of knowledge and learning. The sources being - Books, Courses, People, Blogs, Podcasts, TED talks, Quora, Hacker News and pretty much anything relevant on the web.
I did a research internship at Department of Computer Science, Purdue University, USA in the summer of 2015. During the internship, I worked on relevance calculation of reviews in Service-Oriented Architecture and learnt quite a lot of things.
Taking Computer Science has been one of the best decisions of my life. Courses like Data Structures, Algorithms, Operating Systems, System Software, Software Engineering, Computer Architecture and etc., have really hooked me to it.
Currently, I am interested in Machine Learning, Artificial intelligence, Software Security and I aim to explore them further. Also I have been hearing a lot about Functional Programmming and I intend to start with Scala soon.
I push most of my code to GitHub. Not to forget - the code, music and coffee combination sets me on a high!
I also enjoy competitive programming. You can find me on Codeforces, Topcoder, Codechef etc. through my handle ‘sidak’.
I primarily code in C++. I switch to Java when developing an Android app, to Node.JS when writing server side code and to Python when building games. I prefer working on backend though I can work on frontend as well. I am comfortable with both NoSQL (MongoDB) as well as SQL (SQLite) databases.
I am obsessed with words - their correct usage, different meanings, pronunciation etc. And yeah, I love quotes!
I also play Cricket and Badminton. Cricket is one of the things that I can watch at any time and any number of times! Dravid’s square cut, Sachin’s straight drive, Brett Lee’s inswinging yorkers are a sight to behold.
Lately, I have developed a budding interest in entreprenuership, innovation and psychology.
As it is said,
“Learn more, then you will know how much more you need to learn.”
This blog will be about my narrations along the path to acquire knowledege and wisdom.
